Firefly Hollow Holistic Wellness

Erica Keene of Hempfield Botanicals recently joined Firefly Hollow staff for an informational training about their CBD product line. Hempfield Botanical products are available for purchase in our in-store boutique!
Pictured are some of the CBD products (from the Hempfield Botanicals website). Hempfield Botanicals products are available for purchase in our in-store boutique located inside our center at 200 Farm Lane, York, PA 17402.

What is CBD?
CBD is a molecule found in grown industrial hemp plants that offers a variety of health and pain benefits.  Hemp Seeds do NOT contain CBD as they have not matured and grown into the full plant. If a product only states hemp seed oil on the package or ingredient listing there is no actual CBD in the product.

Is it legal?  Yes, CBD from the Industrial Hemp Plant was legalized with the passing of the Farm Bill in December of 2018.  While some states have decided to not allow products derived from Industrial Hemp it is indeed legal.

Can it get you high? Will you pass a drug test?
You will not get high.  Even CBD products with the allowed legal limit of .3% of THC will not induce a feeling of being high.  There is not enough THC to create a feeling of high in the HEMP plant, unlike its sister Marijuana.  You could still FAIL A DRUG TEST if you are using a full spectrum HEMP CBD product. If you need to pass a drug screening you would want to stick to products produced with CBD ISOLATE that is FREE of THC completely.

What should one look for in a quality product?
Current up to date 3rd party tests matching the batch numbers of the product you have purchased. If a test on a company’s website is from 2018 you should request a current batch test.  The MG’s of CBD should be clearly listed on the product. If you cannot locate this, you could be misled with fancy verbiage or less specific terms of what is inside the products.  Another important factor to consider is if the ingredient list is INCI (The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients, abbreviated INCI, is a system of names for waxes, oils, pigments, chemicals, and other ingredients of soaps, cosmetics, and the like, based on scientific names and other Latin and English words). If this is not the way ingredients are listed, they could be producing it in their homes or other non-approved manufacturing facility. Therefore, you could be introduced to a product that could include ingredients you are allergic to!

How does it affect your brain differently than TCH?
CBD oil is extracted from the cannabis plant and contains chemicals known as cannabinoids. These may bind to receptors in the brain to help relieve symptoms of pain. CBD oil is rich in chemicals called cannabinoids that bind to specialized receptors in the brain.

Are there bad side effects?
No.

Any people who should not take CBD?
The one study we are aware of and advise customers on is Blood Thinners. We always advise checking with your doctor or health professional.

Difference between oral & topical CBD?
The form of the products will be different for one.  Topical products offer the most bio availability as our skin is our largest organ. If you are an individual who has inflamed joints as a result of Crohn’s disease you may require so much topical CBD product that you would be better served to utilize an oral oil. This could be more cost effective and is best for chronic pain that is too large of an area for a topical product.

CBD for children? Pets?
Yes and Yes. HOWEVER, each parent should follow their own preferences and moral compass when incorporating CBD with a child.  Weight should be considered as should the symptoms you are trying to treat. Always consult a physician. The same goes for pets along with all I have listed above.

How much should you take?
This truly differs from each user in regards to weight, experience with CBD or Marijuana, as well as weight and other medical conditions or medications.

What symptom does it help?
There are a lot of amazing benefits of CBD. We know that there is indeed CBD from Marijuana in a current pharmaceutical product for Epilepsy. CBD is great for pain due to inflammation, arthritis, nerve damage, joint pain, nausea from cancer treatment, and anxiety to name a few. It does not, however, cure everything so be sure to not fall prey to a company that makes a claim for a cure-all.

Can one overdose on CBD?
NOPE.

Do you have any stress or anxiety in your life? Chances are – you do! Try Reiki – a simple method to release stress, relax, and restart your body’s ability to heal itself.
What is Reiki? Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing method technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on the hands" and is based on the idea that a "life force energy" flows through us.
Even though Reiki hasn’t gained the same mainstream attention as many other alternative therapies, there are millions of people around the world who regularly receive or practice this Japanese healing method.
What does Reiki feel like? Reiki involves a practitioner either lightly touching or holding their hands over different areas on your body while working as a conduit for the energy of nature to be concentrated and move into and through your body to “wash out” the stale energy and stress. It works by helping you to get into a very deep state of relaxation, thus allowing your body’s innate healing abilities to work at a higher capacity.

Personally, as a Reiki practitioner, I have had excellent success with many individuals suffering from high levels of stress and/or anxiety, some suffering to the extent that they had trouble leaving their homes and could not go to work.

Candy Nicolson, M.S. Candy is a Reiki Master, Shamanic Practitioner and Psychotherapist. She offers Reiki sessions and classes at Firefly Hollow Wellness Center and will also teach the Transformational Energy Healing Program enrolling for classes beginning Fall 2019.

What happens before a Reiki session? How do people react? I ask them a little of their history and how their anxiety is affecting their life, volunteer to explain Reiki and how it works. After the first 30 minute or one hour session almost everyone states, “I have not felt so relaxed in so long.  Wow!”  Many times they report feeling like they have melted into the massage table and wonder if they could just float out to their car if the door were opened.  After a few sessions, most people notice a huge change in their mood and ability to get on with their lives.  Often, I work with people weekly for a month or two, then once every 2-3 weeks, and later whenever they feel they need a “tune-up”.

Another benefit of Reiki is that if you learn to use this healing method you can give Reiki to yourself.  So, if you are having a very stressful day or have symptoms returning, you can just give this loving healing to yourself.

We have many Reiki practitioners at Firefly Hollow Wellness Center, and all are excellent!  We also have classes for those who wish to learn this wonderful method.  Please check out our website and come to a Reiki Clinic or set up a session for yourself with one of our practitioners.

Over a period of 20 years while working at hotel, resort, and private practice, he administered thousands of massage treatments and cleared up many chronic conditions. Some years later, he was in another auto accident which he resulted a shoulder injury that only a Chinese acupuncture doctor was able to resolve. Therefore, Michael decided to enroll at Florida College of Integrative Medicine in Orlando where Michael earned a Master's degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.

Michael relocated to Pennsylvania to be closer to family and friends. He began is acupuncture practice in 2012 in Shippensburg, PA. and opened a satellite office in the Harrisburg area. Micheal is currently licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine as an Acupuncturist.

More about Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used forms of medicine in the world. Originating in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is currently one of the most thoroughly researched, practiced, and respected forms of complementary medicine available anywhere.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, your overall health is determined by the quality of the Qi (energy) flow through the natural pathways of your body (meridians). Acupuncture uses a variety of techniques, including placing very thin sterile needles into specific points on the body, to stimulate and improve your Qi flow.

The many benefits of acupuncture include:
·  Pain reduction, Pain removal and function restored.
·  Stress and tension relief
·  Increased energy levels
·  Stronger digestion
·  Relief from bad habits and addictions
·  Greater sense of overall health and well-being

Acupuncture Treatment sessions with Micheal are fully holistic & may also include:
·  Nutritional Consulting
·  Pulse Diagnosis
·  Neuromuscular Therapy
·  Tension Point Therapy
·  "Tui Na"- Stimulation techniques along meridian channels
·  Cranial Sacral Therapy (Upledger Method)
·  Reiki Treatments
·  Active Isolated Stretching

Add-Ons to Acupuncture Treatments:
Cupping
Cupping has been a part of Chinese Medicine for over 2,500 years. It relieves aches and pains, improves circulation, and also helps with respiratory and digestive issues. I simply place a specialized "cup" onto specific points on your body, and then use suction to draw your skin up into the cups. It doesn't hurt — it simply draws fresh blood to that area of your body, which facilitates the cleansing and strengthening of your Qi (energy). The end result is a greater overall sense of health and well-being.
Add-On Cupping-$20

Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing and health. Moxibustion has been used for healing purposes throughout Asia for thousands of years. The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi (energy), and enhance your overall vitality and health.

Among other benefits, a landmark study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998 found that 75.4% of women suffering from breech presentations before childbirth had fetuses that rotated to the normal position after receiving moxibustion at an acupuncture point on the bladder meridian.
Add-On Moxibustion-$20
